THE PENNY JAR CROWD IDEA, honours the memory of Maggie Lena Mitchell Walker, the first African-American woman bank president in the United States of America, who on November 2,1903 chartered the St. Luke Penny Savings Bank on November 2, 2008, remembering her own mother's habit and Maggie Walker's concept of saving pennies and nickels,
THE PENNY JAR CROWD was established by ANONYMOUS at 29gifts.org as a way to support projects of OPERATION TEDDY BEAR CARE
An initial project is sponsorship of Penny Jar Breakfast/Lunches for two local women who will apprentice with Maureen Forbes in the sewing of teddy bears and baking of biscuits (cookies) twice a week beginning in November, 2008.
The monthly cost of sponsorship is 4,800 pennies ($48.00 American dollars) for each woman.
One thousand pennies ($10.00) provides a basic donation of almost two breakfast/lunches.
4800 pennies will provide breakfast/lunch and training for one month Penny Jar Breakfast / Lunches.
